FIRE West Coast Regional Conference
This special, one-day event will offer students a crash course in their right to free expression. Attendees at FIRE’s first-ever West Coast conference will learn about the history of free speech in higher education and the contemporary struggle against speech codes. FIRE staff will work with students to develop winning strategies for protecting freedom of expression at their college or university. Learn how to protect and celebrate your civil liberties — and take that knowledge back to your campus!
What are the details?
The FIRE West Coast Regional Conference will take place at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) on Saturday, April 29, 2017.
What are we doing?
The conference agenda will include a review of the principles of free speech, the parameters of First Amendment law, and the best strategies for campus action. Attendees will also hear from Eugene Volokh, a computer programmer turned University of California, Los Angeles law professor and First Amendment expert. Volokh founded and writes for The Volokh Conspiracy, which has been described as “one of the Internet’s most-read legal blogs” and is now hosted by The Washington Post.
Attendees will be treated to three meals throughout the day. FIRE will also pay a stipend of up to $150 for travel costs.
