Student Video Contest Call for Entries Reminder

It's now less than two months until the deadline for FIRE's first annual "Freedom on Campus" video contest, open to all college students in the U.S. This is a great way for aspiring filmmakers and documentarians to produce a short film about free speech issues on campus and win a $5,000 scholarship and other prizes. FIRE's motto is that 'sunlight is the best disinfectant,' and we hope students all over the country will help us shine some light on abuses of basic rights on campus.

FIRE is looking for students to document a free speech controversyeither at their own or at another schooland produce a short film about it. Examples include instances in which someone has been punished because of his or her speech, student newspapers have been stolen or vandalized, student groups were not allowed to associate, or speech was confined to a "free speech zone," among many others. To learn more about these types of assaults on liberty, view our own documentaries at thefire.org/multimedia.

The competition is open to all undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in a U.S. college or university, and the video entry must be under 10 minutes in length. The deadline to enter is November 15, 2008, and the winners will be announced on December 5, 2008.
