Thomas Edison Distributes the First Cinematic Kiss

Thomas Edison’s company releases the first cinematic kiss. “The Kiss” clocks in at about 20 seconds and features Vaudeville stars May Irwin and John Rice kissing. A Chicago journalist described the film as “absolutely disgusting” and called for “police interference.” The exact date of the film’s release in 1896 could not be found.
