USC Upstate supports the principle of freedom of
expression for both instructors and students. University
policies on appropriate behavior in the classroom
cannot be used to punish reasonable classroom
dissent. The lawful expression of a disagreement
with the instructor or other students is not in itself
inappropriate/disruptive behavior. Maintenance of
these rights requires classroom conditions which do
not impede their exercise.
