Watch Prager U. Course on 'Unlearning Liberty' & Pre-Order Paperback Today!

FIRE President Greg Lukianoff recently taught a course for Prager University about the importance of free inquiry at America’s institutions of higher education and the ways in which colleges and universities are shutting down constitutionally protected expression on campus. As Greg notes in the video, students are being taught not to question certain viewpoints or to actively seek new ideas—a result that is dangerous not just to students but also to our democracy.

According to a study by the Association of American Colleges and Universities in 2010, less than a third of college seniors felt that it was safe to hold unpopular opinions on campus. Scores of universities maintain so-called “free speech zones,” where students must go to exercise their right to express themselves. And some speech codes prohibit expression as tame as “inappropriately directed laughter.”

Watch Greg’s video for more shocking details on the disappointing state of free speech on college and university campuses. And for a more in-depth look, order Greg’s book, Unlearning Liberty: Campus Censorship and the End of American Debate, now available for pre-order in paperback. The new edition features new content not found in the hardcover edition, including a picture section and an afterword. It will be released on March 11.
