  • Date:
  • Location:

    FIRE Philadelphia Offices

This continuing legal education course, approved by the Pennsylvania CLE Board, will take place at FIRE’s Philadelphia office at 3:00 p.m. EST on Feb. 20, 2024. FIRE senior program officer Zach Greenberg will give an overview of the United States Supreme Court landmark decision Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, 558 U.S. 310 (2010). Citizens United is one of the most hotly debated and controversial rulings this century, prompting thousands of news stories, editorial, law review articles, and academic papers. This presentation will go over the decision’s holdings and rationales. We will explore the majority, concurring, and dissenting opinions, as well as provide a primer on First Amendment principles and campaign finance law. The CLE will conclude with a discussion of whether the decision was rightly decided from a First Amendment perspective.

The goal of this CLE is to give each attending lawyer a working understanding of this decision. Each participant will be given a file with the decision and Powerpoint slides.

Those interested in attending must sign up to attend.
