The FSN Summer Conference will take place at the Franklin Institute and National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, July 15–17, 2022. The conference will kick off on Friday evening and end Sunday afternoon.

What are the details?
The FSN Summer Conference will take place at the Franklin Institute and National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, July 15–17, 2022. The conference will kick off on Friday evening and end Sunday afternoon.
We welcome current students at U.S. colleges and universities, including graduate students and incoming freshmen.
What’s included?
Meals will be provided for all attendees. FIRE will also reimburse up to $500 for travel and lodging costs. Students must attend the entirety of the conference to be eligible for a travel reimbursement.
Event Keynotes
Lara Bazelon
Lara Bazelon is a professor at the University of San Francisco School of Law where she directs the criminal and racial justice clinics and holds the Barnett Chair in Trial Advocacy. She is the author of three books, most recently, Ambitious Like a Mother: Why Prioritizing Your Career is Good for Your Kids, which was published early this year. Her op-eds, essays, and long form journalism have been published in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Atlantic Magazine, and Slate among other media outlets.
David Lat
David Lat is a lawyer turned writer. He publishes Original Jurisdiction, a newsletter on Substack about law and legal affairs, and he writes for newspapers and magazines, including the New York Times, Washington Post, and Wall Street Journal. Prior to launching Original Jurisdiction, David founded Above the Law, one of the nation’s most widely read legal news websites, and Underneath Their Robes, a popular blog about federal judges that he wrote under a pseudonym. He is also the author of a novel set in the world of the federal courts, Supreme Ambitions.
Before entering the media world, David worked as a federal prosecutor in Newark, New Jersey; a litigation associate at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, in New York; and a law clerk to Judge Diarmuid F. O’Scannlain of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. David graduated from Harvard College and Yale Law School, where he served as an editor of the Yale Law Journal.
