Brooklyn Law School: Student Group Forced to Cancel Israeli Speaker Amid Student Backlash

Cases

Case Overview

On October 27, 2025, Brooklyn Law School’s Jewish Law Students Association was set to host Israeli pundit Hillel Fuld. Students for Justice in Palestine and the Student Justice Coalition organized a concurrent protest for the event, citing Fuld’s views and rhetoric on Gaza and the Muslim faith. The law school ordered the event rescheduled, citing resource constraints. Fuld could not reschedule, so JLSA canceled the event. However, the law school allowed SJP and SJC’s protest (which turned into a celebration of the event being canceled) to occur.

On January 5, 2026, FIRE wrote BLS, reminding it that its free speech commitments  require it to allow students to host speakers, even controversial ones.
