Morgan State University: Public Calls on Morgan State University to Punish Faculty for Charlie Kirk Comments

Cases

Case Overview

Following the assassination of Charlie Kirk on September 10, 2025, faculty at Morgan State University made public comments about Kirk’s death. Members of the public then called on Morgan State University to punish the faculty. On September 16, FIRE wrote Morgan State University, explaining that the First Amendment protects speech that others might find offensive, poorly timed, tasteless, inappropriate, hateful, or otherwise controversial. We urged Morgan State University to protect the free speech rights of all its faculty members and students, regardless of viewpoint or content expressed.
