FIRE Victory closed

On December 4, 2023, New Jersey Representative Josh Gottheimer wrote a public letter to Rutgers University President Jonathan Holloway calling on Rutgers to “take action” against a December 7 campus event featuring speakers Marc Lamont Hill and Nick Estes because the event was allegedly platforming “two well-known antisemites.” FIRE wrote Rutgers ahead of the event on December 7 urging the university to resist the call to modify or cancel the event because the First Amendment gives faculty and students the right to invite controversial speakers to campus. Rutgers acknowledged receipt of the letter and the event proceeded as planned.
