Harassment. Conduct that is (1) unwelcome, (2) discriminatory, (3) on the basis of a protected status (i.e., sex, gender, gender identity, race, color, age, creed, national or ethnic origin, physical or mental disability, veteran status, pregnancy status, religion, sexual orientation or other protected status), (4) directed at an individual, and (5) so severe, pervasive, and objectively offensive, and that so undermines and detracts from the victims’ educational experience, that the victim-students are effectively denied equal access to the University’s resources and opportunities. Instances of Harassment should be reported to campus officials, such as the Office of Student Affairs or any Dean, who will act to remedy and resolve reported incidents on behalf of the victim and community.
a. Hostile Environment. Sanctions can and will be imposed for the creation of a hostile environment only when harassment is sufficiently severe, pervasive, and persistent and objectively offensive that it unreasonably interferes with, limits or denies the ability to participate in or benefit from the University’s educational or employment program or activities.
