The Society of Professional Journalists and several dozen news media organizations asked the U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeals to recognize California’s anti-SLAPP statute that a trial judge cited in dismissing a defamation suit between two doctors. The suit was filed in Florida, but the law of California applied to the case. SPJ said the trial court ruling is important because it is not clearly established that state anti-SLAPP statutes apply in federal courts…
