Dear Law Students: Apply for the Hellman Fellowship Today!

Arthur D. Hellman Fellowship

Are you a rising 2L or 3L looking for an opportunity to defend First Amendment rights and build connections with experienced and passionate attorneys in the field? If so, FIRE has the perfect position for you! Applications are open for FIRE’s Arthur D. Hellman Fellowship in First Amendment Litigation, a paid fellowship with a $7,000 stipend for a 10-week program that runs through the summer.

As a Hellman Fellow, you will be based in FIRE’s Philadelphia office, working on substantive research projects, making meaningful contributions to our active litigation cases, and building a network of law students and professionals across the country. Hellman Fellows build long-term relationships with FIRE, increasing their opportunities for further employment or full-time fellowships. But don’t take our word for it. Our testimonials speak for themselves:

“As an aspiring First Amendment litigator, I could not have had a more valuable summer experience than the Hellman Fellowship,” said Theo Tamayo, Class of 2022. “From the very first day, all of the Fellows in my cohort were given challenging and important assignments, included in strategy meetings for ongoing and planned cases, and supported by the FIRE team whenever we encountered serious obstacles. Every one of my supervisors was both competent and invested in developing my skills, and thanks to their guidance I learned more about the work that I want to do in a 10 week summer fellowship than I had in my entire first year of law school.”

While the deadline for applications is February 14, 2023, we receive and award fellowships on a rolling basis so we encourage all to apply as soon as they are able
