Mark Goodman to Step Down from the Student Press Law Center
I was saddened today to learn that Mark Goodman, who has been with the Student Press Law Center (SPLC) for 22 years, has decided to step down as Executive Director. According to a statement sent out today by the SPLC Board of Directors, he will be moving on to become the first Knight Chair of Scholastic Journalism at Kent State University. We will miss having such a reliable and principled compatriot in the fight for student press freedom.
I routinely refer to the SPLC as my “second favorite non-profit” (after FIRE, of course). FIRE has been pleased to work with the SPLC on numerous cases, together defending the freedom of the press on our nation’s college and university campuses. While Mark is truly irreplaceable, we trust that the SPLC will find a leader worthy of its proud history. We at FIRE would like to take this opportunity to salute Mark Goodman and the invaluable work he has done, and to wish him happiness in all his future endeavors.
