Over the past few years, FIRE has built dedicated communities of followers across a variety of social media platforms. And, because colleges and universities often can't defend in public what they do to students and faculty in private, we count on these communities to raise awareness about cases and help get the word out about our mission to defend the individual rights of people on college campuses across the nation.
FIRE's Facebook page, in addition to providing us with another platform for getting our news out to our diverse audience, has served as a forum for people to voice their opinions about FIRE cases and issues. Facebook comments promote interaction between not only FIRE fans, but also people who oppose our stances, giving us the chance to showcase the importance of robust debate in America. Visit our Facebook page to view both the positive and negative reactions to our blog post lamenting UC Berkeley Chancellor Robert J. Birgeneau's response to the Arizona shooting, for example.
