University of Colorado: Athletics Department imposes restrictions on simulated game content, slideshows
Cases
University of Colorado, Boulder
Case Overview
The University of Colorado Boulder’s athletics department released a new credential policy restricting “simulated video or slideshows mimicking game action.” FIRE wrote to CU Boulder on August 25, 2025, explaining that this policy unconstitutionally requires outlets to abide by university-made restrictions on how outlets can report facts about sporting events as a condition of receiving credentials. On September 5, 2025, CU informed FIRE the university would remove the restriction on simulations.
