Case Overview

On April 11, 2023, the campus chapter of Students for Life of America reported that the University of New Mexico imposed a $8,140 security fee on an event featuring SFLA President Kristan Hawkins. FIRE wrote the university on April 13 explaining that imposing such a burdensome security fee is impermissible, and that the university should take responsibility for the fee and work with the student group to ensure the event can proceed.
