The U.S. Department of Education announced today that it will extend the comment period for its notice of proposed rulemaking under Title IX by two days, to Jan. 30, due to a technical glitch that made the web portal for submitting comments unavailable earlier this week. As the department explained on Twitter:
The Federal eRulemaking Portal was temporarily unavailable from the afternoon of January 16, 2019 until the evening of January 17, 2019 due to technical issues. To ensure that the public will have had sixty days in total to submit comments on the Department’s proposed rule under Title IX . . . using the Federal eRulemaking Portal, the Department is extending the public comment period. We must now receive your comments on or before January 30, 2019.
As we have written previously, the proposed regulations make great strides toward improving the fundamental fairness of campus Title IX proceedings to the benefit of all. Accordingly, we will be submitting a comment and hope our readers will, too.
