A bias incident is an act or behavior motivated by the offender’s pre-formed negative opinion or attitude toward facets of another persons’ identity. An incident of bias may occur whether the act is intentional or unintentional. An act of bias may be directed toward an individual or group. Bias may contribute to creating an unsafe and/or unwelcoming environment. For Florida State University, a bias incident is anything that directly violates the tenets of The Seminole Creed.
The Division of Student Affairs at Florida State University has developed a Bias Incident Response System. This system will provide a free and confidential service that will allow students, faculty, and staff to report behavior they believe qualify as a bias incident.
Thank you for your willingness to report a bias incident within our community. The Florida State University is committed to creating and maintaining a safe and welcoming atmosphere for all students, faculty and staff. Fostering this climate includes taking constructive action if one witnesses or knows about behavior perceived to be inconsistent with the Seminole Creed, which may include violation of the student code of conduct and/or university policies.
